Silver Beaver Awards will be presented at the council's Annual Meeting & Recognition Dinner on June 14.

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest award a local council can present to an adult volunteer of the Boy Scouts of America. The award is presented to those volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the Scouting program. Nominations are recommended by the local council and approved by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Cheryl Ecker approaches each task with a focus and dedication possessed by very few adult volunteer leaders. She contributed to the development of countless numbers of Scouts and young people throughout her community for the last 20 years.
She was a Tiger Cub coordinator, den leader and Webelos leader during a seven-year span for Pack 482, chartered to the Knights of Columbus. She was committee chairman for Troop 407, chartered to the Twin City Lions Club, for two years. She currently serves as a troop and Venturing crew committee member and led a trek to the Philmont Scout Ranch.
She served on her district’s training staff for the last 11 years and currently is co-chairman. She was district advancement chairman, coordinated merit badge centers for the last 12 years and served on the Eagle Scout Board of Review for the last 10 years. She directed Cub Scout Adventure Camp for two years and started the first evening camp in her district. She served on numerous camporee and Klondike Derby staffs. She worked on several district Family Friends of Scouting campaigns and was chairman for two years. She served on the staffs of ScoutQuest 100 and many Cub Scout Leader Pow Wows.
She served the Festus School District as a P.T.O. Booster Club member and Junior Achievement presenter. She assisted the Mastodon Arts and Science Fair for many years and taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church.
She completed Wood Badge training, earned the Key Three Award and received her district’s Award of Merit. She has been married to her husband, Jim, for 27 years and is the mother of Jessica and Andrew, an Eagle Scout.
