Eagle Scout Ken Yamamoto’s quiet passion for Scouting influenced hundreds of Scouts and leaders for decades.
He was a member of Pack 74, Troop 74, and Explorer Post 74, chartered by the Midwest Buddhist Temple in Chicago, Ill. He earned the Sanga religious award. He served on summer camp staff for seven years at Owassippe Scout Reservation. He attended 1964 National Jamboree and the 1977 World Jamboree.
He was a committee member of Cub Pack 112, charted to the United Methodist Church. He is a committee member of Troop 4, charted to the Knights of Columbus, and committee chairman of Venture Crew 4, chartered to St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro, Ill.
Ken served on the district Boy Scout Leader Training staff for seven years. He completed Wood Badge and was a staff member for three courses. He served as the district’s advancement and training chairman during a six-year span. He is a challenge and climbing instructor and currently a National Camp School certified COPE/Climbing inspector.
He assisted his Order of the Arrow chapter and the Anpetu-we Lodge. His recruiting helped Troop 1118 attend the 2010 National Jamboree, which was the first time a full troop from southern Illinois attended a National Jamboree since 1993.
Outside of Scouting, he assisted with the Kiwanis Kiddie Parade during Murphysboro’s Annual Apple Festival. He served as a judge and a superintendent for the Jackson County 4-H show days.
He is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow and received his districts’ Award of Merit. His father is a Silver Beaver recipient. He is the father of an Eagle Scout.
