​Silver Beaver Awards will be presented at the council's Annual Meeting & Recognition Dinner on June 14.

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest award a local council can present to an adult volunteer of the Boy Scouts of America. The award is presented to those volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the Scouting program. Nominations are recommended by the local council and approved by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

     Eagle Scout and Brotherhood Order of the Arrow member Bill Neukum is a cornerstone for the Scouting program in his community. He influenced the lives of hundreds of youth members during the last 25 years. He has mentored more than 60 boys in attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
     He was an assistant Cubmaster and Cubmaster for Pack 809, chartered to St. Monica Catholic Church. He was an assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster and currently is committee chairman for Troop 809. He was an Advisor to Explorer Post 166. Bill also provides assistance and leadership to Venture Crew 809. He helped lead treks to the Philmont Scout Ranch, Florida Sea Base and Northern Tier adventure bases.
     He is a member of the council’s challenge course and climbing committee and often spends weekends helping troops other than his own take part in the course. He is a merit badge counselor. He raised tens of thousands of dollars to support Scouting as a Friends of Scouting trailblazer and crew chief during the last 12 years. He served on Cub Adventure Camp staff and assists with many district and council events.
     He is an active member of St. Monica Catholic Church. He assisted with adult education, engaged couples preparation for marriage, and a presenter with Marriage Encounter. He was a member of the parish carnival committee and coached youth baseball, basketball and soccer.
     He is the father of five Eagle Scouts.
