Why We Sell Popcorn

The Boy Scouts of America...

We are not the Boy Scouts of Cape Girardeau, of Hillsboro, or of Kansas City.  We are the Boy Scouts of America.  We are one organization.  We are one movement standing for the betterment of youths’ welfare across this great country.  We have one mission – “to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.”  We are in this together.

One component of our Scouting program is the annual Popcorn Fundraiser.  It is the national fundraiser of the Boy Scouts of America.  This is NOT the same fundraiser your children do for a sports team or band.  This is an Unselfish Fundraiser.  It might be true that a pack, troop, or crew can raise more money for itself selling Christmas wreathes or barbeque ribs, but they are only helping themselves.  By participating in the Popcorn Fundraiser, their Scouts are also:

·    Raising money to support outdoor programs and camp properties and equipment
·    Raising money to provide training courses like National Youth Leadership Training or Boy Scout Leader Training
·    Raising money to make available award and recognition items to reinforce the good works being done by our Scouts and leaders
·    Raising money to offer programs like Cub/Boy Scout Advancement Workshops to enhance unit programming
·    Raising money to help families who need financial assistance to attend camp, pay registration fees, or go to a training course

The Popcorn Fundraiser supports the greater good of Scouting, the future of Scouting.  It is Scouting’s national fundraiser.

Moreover, this is an Educational Fundraiser.  The Boy Scouts of America and Trails End have put together many resources that packs, troops, and crews can utilize for making the Popcorn Fundraiser an integral part of their program teaching responsibility, money management, and salesmanship.  Educating young people on how to pay their own way in life is important.  We give you the tools and ongoing support so your Scouts are sure to be successful.  Your unit has plentiful funds to have quality programming, Scouts build self-confidence through achievements, and Scouting thrives and grows in the community.  You cannot and will not get this support when you buy candy bars from a discount store, for example, as your fundraiser.  Trails End 70 Percent Logo.jpg

Packs, troops, and crews across the country regularly make the Popcorn Fundraiser their one and only fundraiser, selling $30,000-$90,000 worth of popcorn per unit.  You can do that too and we will help you.

Never mind that thousands of units across the country do this every year.  Never mind that we have great prizes (gift cards, Zyclone blasters, FREE CAMP, scholarships, and more!) that were approved by Scouts.  Never mind that we have awesome popcorn that people WANT TO BUY and EXPECT SCOUT TO SELL.  Think about participating in the Popcorn Fundraiser this year because you want your Scouts to be a part of something bigger than your own unit.  If you do your own fundraiser other than the Popcorn Fundraiser, I implore you to give it a try this year in addition.  You don’t have to discard your other fundraiser, but think of all the other units that are supporting you and your Scouting experience when they sell popcorn.  Think of their expectations of you.  Think of the greater good of Scouting and the future of Scouting.

The Popcorn Fundraiser supports the greater good of Scouting, the future of Scouting.  It is Scouting’s national fundraiser.
